Conference Excursion and Banquet

The Conference excursion on the 7th of December will include a visit to the Asian Civilization Museum followed by a Cruise on the Singapore River.

We will first visit the Asian Civilization Museum (ACM), right in the centre of the Civic District, in downtown Singapore. The ACM houses numerous galleries that exhibit artefacts from Southeast Asia, China, South Asia and West Asia. It was voted as one of the top 10 museums in Asia in 2014 by TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice awards for Museums. A key theme that runs through the museum is how the various culture, art and history of different parts of Asia influence each other. Highlights of the ACM include items found on an ancient shipwreck in the ‘Tang Shipwreck’ gallery, statues of Buddha and Bodhisattvas from the various cultures in Asia, and the gorgeous Dehua or Blanc de Chine porcelains. The ACM is also part of an ensemble of buildings that makes up the Civic District of Singapore. Within walking distance of the ACM are other historical buildings such as the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, the Old Parliament, the former Supreme Court (Currently the National Gallery of Singapore), the Padang and the former General Post Office (Currently the Fullerton Hotel).

What better way to see the city of Singapore than to take a cruise on the river that bears the city’s name. The Singapore River is where the city of Singapore was born. We will hop onto the boat near the Asian Civilization Museum. On the cruise you can take in views of the modern city skyline, as well as the historic waterfront of Singapore. We will end our cruise at the Conference Banquet venue, The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore.
